Problems faced by the company are:

China International Furniture Fair (CIFF) 180307
Is a platform for established brands to showcase their products. Local investors and foreign investors conduct transactions and exchange view on cultural designs, the trend distributions of the industry.

There are a wide range of varieties to choose from, the modern section and antique section. Each exhibitor has their own theme which attracts different customers. The fair attracts markets from all over the world. Each exhibiting enterprise gave out flyers with regard to their enterprise and products. Exchange of name card and an exclusive entry is noted. Buyers were seen with calculators. The fair organize by Hong Kong TDC and other supporters help those exhibiting enterprise to enlarge their market.

Learning points: Government plays an important role in helping companies to search for bigger markets. In the CIFF, seminars are organized to create opportunities for participating exhibitors to communicate and interact with each other. Contests are organize to encourage innovation of product design, enhance enterprise competitiveness and add diversity and interest to the exhibitors. Specialists are also invited to give lectures on topics like Sales Strategies and Product Designs. Marketing is also important they have publicized CIFF through influential websites, media, and other international exhibitions.

Pearl River Piano Factory 160307 located in Guang Zhou, China, was established in 1956. They had just celebrated their 50th anniversary in year 2006. On the special occasion, they celebrate it with performance using 101 pianos.


There are a total of 8000 parts for a piano. The piano cabinets are made out of spruce, pine, maple and Chinese walnut. The iron frame is cast from the highest quality pig iron to assure a lifetime of support to the instrument. Tuning pin holes are precisely drilled by digital boring machines to guarantee the utmost accuracy. Tuning is done by the employees who are trained on basic music and singing.

They produce base on sales orders. For year 2006, they have sold about 70,000 pianos, earning about 7-8million. They sold in the 80 provinces of China, USA and Germany. They continuously show case their piano through musical fairs and by organizing piano competition with government supporting. Visits from important people from all over the world also enhance their brand name. They set up a few subsidiaries in USA and Germany.

Their mission is to develop the highest quality in the industry. To do so, they hire professionals and piano experts to improve instrument designs, tone color and manufacturing techniques. In 1998, they earned the International Standards Association ISO 9001 Certification for its entire line of grand and vertical pianos, including all parts and components. They are in fact the first piano company in China to receive this independent certification of quality.
Besides producing 'Pearl River' piano and Ritmüller piano, they also produce other instruments like electric guitar, violin and trumpet. In Year 2003, they declared themselves as the world's biggest piano factory.

Learning points: They were the first to make the move in the piano industry. Consistently improving their technologies and ensure that they produce the highest standards in craftmanship and quality materials for their customers are factors that lead to their success. A good team, leadership and management are also important factors. In the next 10yrs, they would want to attain another level, and be known globally.
